They are often required to attend rehearsals on public holidays and during the school holidays.
The JYB charges a modest annual membership fee and also offers a number of bursaries to deserving candidates ensuring that there are no barriers to acceptance into the company. If a dancer has the ability and the right attitude the JYB management will welcome them into the company. For forty years the JYB has increased access to the arts for the youth in Johannesburg fulfilling their founding mandate to give young dancers from the greater Johannesburg area an opportunity to be a part of a professionally run company and to experience the dynamics of performing in an annual season.
